NC Group Ltd is delighted to have begun its journey with Shine, an employer accreditation programme delivered by the North East Combined Authority. The initiative recognises organisations that demonstrate a strong commitment to fairness, opportunity and responsible business practices.

Shine is a new initiative from North East Mayor Kim McGuinness that highlights employers who lead with fairness, opportunity and respect while supporting sustainable economic growth across the region.

The North East Combined Authority (North East CA) was formed on 7 May 2024. It is led by Elected Mayor Kim McGuinness and the Cabinet and covers the seven local authority areas of County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland.

What is the Shine Accreditation?

Shine is an employer accreditation programme designed to help organisations strengthen workplace practices while supporting economic growth and opportunity across the North East of England.

The programme helps businesses:

  • Strengthen their ability to attract and retain talented people

  • Demonstrate commitment to fair pay, skills and sustainable growth

  • Align with national priorities such as the Employment Rights Bill

  • Access tools, support and recognition to build stronger businesses

  • Become positive ambassadors for their workforce, industry and region

NC Group has already achieved Foundation Level Accreditation Beam One, recognising our commitment to employee health, safety, and well-being. Over the coming months, we will work towards Beam Two to demonstrate our impact beyond the workplace on sustainability and social value.

What is the Shine framework?

The Shine accreditation framework is built around five key areas designed to support better workplaces and stronger regional businesses.

Beam one: Prioritising employee health, safety and wellbeing

The foundation of every good employer. Build a workplace that protects and supports your people.

Beam two: Community, net zero and social responsibility

Take responsibility for your impact on your community, the environment and the wider region.

Beam three: Employee voice, communications and representation

Give employees a voice and build trust through open communication and meaningful dialogue.

Beam four: Opportunity for all – inclusivity, upskilling and employee empowerment

Champion inclusion, skills development and employee growth. Make your workplace a launchpad.

Beam five: Fair work and fair pay for all

Commit to fairness, security and dignity at work – for everyone, at every level.

Supporting better workplaces in the North East

NC Group is proud to be part of the Shine community and to support an initiative that encourages businesses across the North East to build fairer, more inclusive and supportive workplaces.

As we progress through the Shine framework, we look forward to continuing our journey to strengthen opportunities for our people and to contribute positively to the region’s economy and communities.

"At NC Group, we are proud to join the Shine initiative. It reflects our commitment to creating a safe, fair and supportive workplace for our team, while also recognising the important role we play in our wider communities. We see this as an opportunity to not only grow as a business but to contribute meaningfully to the North East region and the people who live and work here." - Liam Noble, Managing Director, NC Group.
